Piquette
Square is a 4 story, 150 unit apartment complex located in Detroit’s
New Center area. The
structure boasts 11,000 square of feet of common area as
well as commercial
space on the first level. Numerous green technologies were
employed in this project including a state-of-the-art geothermal field.
Developed and managed by Southwest Housing Solutions, Piquette
is designed to provide homeless veterans in the City of Detroit with permanent
housing as well as a comprehensive offering of supportive services. These
services are on-site and include mental health counseling, substance abuse
treatment, on-site job training, computer labs, and educational programs.
Piquette Square is
the second project of its kind in Michigan, and one of the largest of in the
United States.

The second phases of Gardenview Estates added 135 residential units of new construction, housed in 43 new
buildings, and a community clubhouse to the Gardenview Estates
development. These duplex and multi-family buildings are wood frame
construction with a brick façade over concrete basements. Each unit is
about 1,100 square feet and is fitted with energy star appliances and a
high efficiency furnace and water heater. Six-inch cellulose wall
insulation and R-38 attic insulation are being installed to further
increase energy efficiency.
The community clubhouse includes a social room with full kitchen,
computer room, leasing offices and a beautiful playground. This project
is part of the continuing redevelopment of the Detroit Housing
Commission's former Herman Gardens public housing site. The earlier
phase of this affordable housing project, previously completed by O’Brien
Construction, included the construction of 36 buildings containing 96
unit.
