O'Brien Construction believes that no job or no task is more important that worker health and safety. We uphold a strict policy that every procedure must be a safe procedure, and shortcuts in safety procedures by either supervisor or workers are not tolerated. If a worker observes any unprotected job, which may pose a potential threat to their health or safety, he or she must inform management and management must take adequate precautions.

If a job cannot be done safely, it will not be done. Our futures are only built through our people; we aim to protect them.
— Tim O'Brien, Principal, O'Brien Construction

Gold Standard of Safety

O'Brien Construction is very proud of our outstanding record of safety and we are committed to achieving a zero-incident record on every project we do. In order to ensure safe jobsites, O'Brien Construction employs the services of an AGC Safety Director who conducts quarterly project safety reviews. Safety walk-throughs are conducted on every jobsite followed by a luncheon where the AGC Safety Director discusses industry standards and recent issues in the safety field.

In order to reinforce our commitment to safety as a top priority on all projects, Tim O'Brien, Principal of O'Brien Construction, acts as the company's safety officer. As such, he manages and administers O'Brien Construction’s Safety and Health Program for every jobsite. His role includes responsibility for the following:

  • Knowledge of potential job hazards.

  • Assuring compliance with MIOSHA construction safety and health standard requirements.

  • Making regular safety inspections.

  • Establishing safety procedures.

  • Coordinating regular safety training with foremen and superintendents.

  • Maintaining safety records.

Safety Toolbox Talks are included in O'Brien Constructions Weekly Trade Coordination Meetings for all current projects. During these talks, tradesman are instructed on potential safety issues and reminded of safety regulations. Each Trade Foreman is then required to report back to their tradesmen with the Toolbox Talk.

All Superintendents, Project Managers and Project Engineers who are employed by O'Brien Construction are required to complete the OSHA 30-Hour Outreach Training Program for the Construction Industry. This course is a comprehensive safety program designed for anyone involved in the construction industry. Specifically devised for safety directors, foremen, and field supervisors, the program provides complete information on OSHA compliance issues. Additionally, O'Brien Construction participates in MIOSHA's voluntary safety inspection program in which MIOSHA Inspectors are invited to our jobsites to perform safety evaluations and identify potential violations.
