Principles of Safety

O’Brien Construction prioritizes worker health and safety above all else. We have a strict policy against shortcuts in safety procedures, and any unsafe conditions should be reported to management for prompt action.

Gold Standard of Safety

We prioritize safety by working with an AGC Safety Director who conducts quarterly safety reviews and walk-throughs on all job sites and discusses industry standards and recent safety issues.

Our Safety Manager is dedicated to prioritizing safety on all projects. They oversee and implement O’Brien Construction’s Safety and Health Program at every job site. Their responsibilities include the following:

  • Understanding potential job hazards
  • Ensuring compliance with MIOSHA construction safety and health standards
  • Conducting regular safety inspections
  • Establishing safety procedures
  • Coordinating regular safety training with foremen and superintendents
  • Maintaining safety records

At our Weekly Trade Coordination Meetings, we conduct Safety Toolbox Talks for all projects. During these talks, we address safety issues and remind tradespeople of regulations. The Trade Foremen then report to their tradesmen with the Toolbox Talk information.

All Superintendents, Project Managers, and Project Engineers must complete the OSHA 30-Hour Outreach Training Program for the Construction Industry. This program covers OSHA compliance for construction industry employees.

O’Brien Construction participates in MIOSHA’s voluntary safety inspection program, inviting MIOSHA Inspectors to job sites for safety evaluations and to identify potential violations.
